SKC is accelerating the commercialization of glass substrates to secure a leading position in the next-generation packaging market by participating in the rights issue of Absolics, its semiconductor glass substrate business investment arm.

SKC announced on the 4th that its board of directors resolved to make a cash investment of approximately KRW 281 billion by participating in a shareholder allocation rights issue initiated by Absolics. SKC plans to acquire 192,416 new shares, allocated in proportion to its current stake (70.05%).

This participation is a follow-up measure to SKC’s KRW 1.1671 trillion capital increase carried out in the first half of this year. SKC previously outlined a blueprint to invest approximately KRW 590 billion of the secured funds into the glass substrate business over the next three years. Absolics aims to execute customer validations for each product seamlessly, while continuously enhancing yield and quality competitiveness to establish a full-scale mass production system.

An SKC official stated, "This investment is the first step in translating the financial resources secured in the first half of the year into tangible business achievements." The official added, "We will continue to inject the planned capital in phases to accelerate our readiness for mass production, and we will solidify our technological leadership in the next-generation semiconductor packaging market through close collaboration with strategic partners."
